Scheinhafen’s foreign policy is oriented primarily toward the wider micronational community rather than striving for macronational recognition, which the Duchy accepts is unlikely to ever be forthcoming. The Duchy recognises the vast majority of macronations and upholds the principle that nations, however small and within reason, have a right to exist, and on that basis remains generally open to diplomatic relations with other micronations. Scheinhafen hopes to encourage genuine, positive nation-building within the movement, that can positively benefit the community and wider world. In that spirit, the Duchy is a strong advocate of the Edgbaston and Wrythe Conventions.
